Backsteet's-Back! Return of the 90s (not literally;-)!)

In case you've been living under a rock in the fashion and beauty worlds, you would have noticed the massive resurgence in 90s style. I ain't complaining, 90s child all the way! :-) I only began to notice the nod to the 90s in some of the young 'teen' icons such as Kylie Jenner and Ariana Grande, showcasing almost matte looks. What made me think the 90s jumped on Marty McFly's time-machine and jumped off in 2014 was the dominance of crop-tops and swing skirts. Who remembers Clueless? Exactly. For me, I woke up one morning and saw a zillion tutorials on the youngest Kardashian Kylie Jenner and thought, are the grunge days of the 90s back? I think so!
Although it brings a nostalgic smile to my face, all the 90s styles and trends ha don't appeal to me. So, I thought I'd share some of the 90s make-up that is taking the YouTube and social media worlds crazy as well and some fashion.........god help us!;-)

1) Matte Make-Up

This little madam has caused quite the stir in the make-up world bringing back the overdrawn, but mostly natural nude lip. Not as dramatic as the 90s where the inner lip was obviously a shade much paler than the outer or lip liner, Kylie has taken her own spin on the 90s trend. Having seen most of the YouTube tutorials on her look, a matte base, subtle cheek highlight, muted blush and smoked out eyes are the way to go. The use of orange-based browns, brown soft liners as well as black smudged along the upper and lower lash lines with lashings of mascara do the job. As you can see from the image below of Kylie, little dewiness doesn't mean you walk around like a corpse, to me it looks a little more appealing than a glitterball on a Saturday night. What are the types of products I would use for a Kylie Jenner look similar to the one below? Here's my top products! ;-)

  • Moisturiser (look healthy from within, the alternative to highlight ladies!)=   Oilatum
  • Foundation= Nars SheerMatte Foundation.
  • Eyes= MAC Brule on the lid, Soft Brown in the crease and Espresso/Carbon(touch of!) in the outer V. MAC Teddy eyeliner on the waterline and Smoulder on the top and upper lash line. Loreal Telescopic with MAC #35/ Ardell Demi Wispies if you want more than natural looking lashes.
  • Bronzer-MATTE! MAC MSF in Medium Deep, keep it as matte as possible ladies, no cheating!
  • Blush- MAC Gingerly. Make sure to blend here to prevent any sharp lines.
Lips- MAC Stripdown/Oak liners with MAC Myth or  Hue on the centres of the lips, blending outward into the liner. Don't forget to slightly over-draw your own natural lip line. Not too much though....people will stare! ;-)

 QUICK TIP!

A trick to matte down your favourite shimmery lipstick for this look is to apply translucent powder sparingly to the high-shine areas!

As you can see from both Ariana's and Kylie's makeup looks, they are pre-dominantly mate and nude. The eyes have that messy 'just out of bed look', which continues to the hair.

2) Hair

Kylie adopts the messy straight hair look while Arians tend to make her waves in the ponytail less neat. When you've tied your hair up in the high  ponytail having styled the ends with a curling wand, lightly brush the ends out, leave the ends with less structure. As for the colour, the light ashy brown colour either in an ombre look like Ariana and Kylie or all over seems to be the dominant trend. LOVING IT! Less effort in the mornings girls;-)

3) Clothes

If your taking a leaf from Ariana and Kylie, crop tops are a must. Pair it with highwaisted maxis or trousers if you don't feel up to exposing the mid area, tis too cold half the time in Ireland anyway......lame excuse I know! ;-)

Well the 90s are definitely back, are you jumping on the bandwagon? :-)
